CITIZENS OF HEAVEN
Scripture: Ephesians 2:19
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.
A foreigner is one who dwells in a country that he or she is not a citizen. A citizen, on the other hand, is one who is considered a full member of the country he or she dwells in.
Foreigners have limited rights in their countries of residence whilst citizens have authority to enjoy the full rights and privileges common to all the true members of the country.
Although all human beings are created equal by God and have the same intrinsic worth, we do not share the same rights and privileges in God’s household.
• Without the redemption of Christ, we are seen as foreigners in the household of God. We dwell on His earth and enjoy some of His benefits alright but have limited access to the fullness of His benefits.
• In Christ, we have full citizenship rights and access to all that the kingdom of God has to offer. We have unlimited access to God’s presence, power and provision.
• We are not only the citizens of the kingdom. There are many, many others from different races, nationalities, cultures and social backgrounds all united in citizenship through the blood of Jesus Christ. We are part of the body of Christ.
• To enjoy our citizenship rights, we have to study the scriptures to discover what the Lord has made available to us and boldly claim them in the name of Jesus.
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, I lay hold on every promise and privilege you have made me as a citizen of your kingdom. Scriptural Reading: Ephesians 2:14-22
